Becoming a 'greener' business has always been our focus and while we have a long way to go, we are so proud to see just how we have come; from top to bottom and right across the business, we continue to see changes that amaze us everyday.
So as we reduce plastic across our business, save thousands of meals from going to waste and support fantastic charities and causes, we hope you will join us as loyal PAUL customers to help pave a happier and healthier future for generations to come.
With over 130 years of experience, it is fair to say we have seen communities, evolve, grow and change with the times. We know it is important that we do too. Find out what we are doing to be a part of that change.
Many things have stayed the same since the first PAUL shop opened in 1889. One of these things is the recognition that our people really are the secret ingredient to our success.
Too Good To Go -Fighting food Waste together
We believe we have a responisbility to minimise our contribution to landfill and look for any opportunity to reduce food waste across our business and daily operations. In 2018 we started our partnership with Too Good To Go to help us on our mission to do just that. Less than a year on and we are incredibly proud to see all PAUL shops in the UK partnered with the eco-warriors doing their bit to save thousands of meals from otherwise going to waste.
In fact, in 2019 alone, we managed to save 55,012 meals from the black hole that is the bin liner and have continued to save even more since!
Watch the video below to see just how easy it is for you to get involved and help us in our mission to fight food waste.
Action Against Hunger - Working together to end world hunger
As a global bakery with humble beginnings, our work with Action Against Hunger is very close to our hearts. Feeding people and communities has always come naturally to us and that is why for every 5p biodegradeable plastic bag sold we have pledged to donate all proceeds to charity.
We have also been part of large scale campaigns and were thrilled to be a part of the 'Love Food Give Food' initiative in 2019 which we ran at our two London based restaurants Le Restaurant de PAUL Tower 42 and Le Restaurant de PAUL Covent Garden.
Reducing Plastic Use & Recycling
Over the last few years it has become even more important that our business take responsibility for the use of plastic throughout our daily operations; and as much as it is a challenge, we have embraced it and committed ourselves to reducing single use plastic across all our our stores and seek more sustainable packaging solutions. The motto at PAUL is simple, plastic is not fantastic, so with that as our focus, we have worked hard to make the following changes to our business:
Removed all plastic straws from our shops
Replaced plastic cutlery with FSC eco-friendly wooden
Partnered with First Mile to help with our in-store recycling programme including collecting coffee waste to process with Bio-Bean to turn into alternative fuels
What else is on our plan? Plastic free tea-bags and zero plastic in all stores by 2021!
As part of our plan to reduce plastic, we offer re-usable PAUL KeepCups for customers to purchase in-stores. The great buzz around this is that 50p from the sale of each PAUL re-usable cup goes towards BugLife - a charity devoted to the conservation of all invertebrates such as bees and other pollinating insects across the UK. We also offer our customers 50p discount on all take away hot drinks when they bring their own re-usable cups as a thank you for helping us to reduce our plastic waste. Since doing so, we are so proud of our teams to have helped save over 120,000 cups going to landfill. With that said, buy your PAUL KeepCup from our online store today.
