Our Bakery & Café in Islington can be found at 302 Upper Street, close to the King’s Head Theatre Pub, the Almeida Theatre and a few minutes’ walk from Camden Passage antiques market, the Screen on the Green, the Business Design Centre, O2 Academy, Islington Green and Angel tube station. Elizabeth I allegedly visited Sir Walter Raleigh at a house in Upper Street. The village at the top of the hill came to be known as ‘merry Islington’, reputed for good dairy farms providing London’s milk and pure water from its springs. It was also a refuge for people fleeing outbursts of the plague, or the aftermath of the Great Fire. Chapel Market, established for over 150 years, remains one of London’s best known street markets. The arrival of the Regent’s Canal in 1820 and the growth of the railways changed Islington dramatically. Sadly, the area suffered badly in the second world war, but many attractive buildings remain and the area is popular and fashionable once more. Closest station is Angel (Northern Line). 20 seats are available. Disabled access available. Free wi-fi.
