Festive Pig Sandwich- 50p Charity Donation
CHRISTMAS IS ABOUT GIVING BACK TOO – AND WE’RE GIVING 50p TO THE FELIX PROJECT FOR EVERY FESTIVE PIG SANDWICH YOU BUY
After 3 years of successful Christmas fund-raising campaigns, raising a total of over £38,000 from sales of our freshly baked bread, this year we’re donating 50p from the sale of every Festive Pig Sandwich – our new best-selling take on Pigs in Blankets.
We’re big fans of The Felix Project, the food charity that’s improving sustainability by rescuing edible food waste and delivering it free of charge to vulnerable people suffering food poverty in London. We’ve been supporting them since Christmas 2016 when we first chose them as the beneficiary of our festive fund-raising appeal.
PAUL Christmas sandwiches have become an eagerly awaited festive tradition, winning awards all round. This year we've done it again! Time Out have awarded us No. 1 and No. 2 Christmas sandwich in their 2019 survey for our Dinde de Noël Christmas Turkey Sandwich (winner for 4 years running) and our All About the Sprout Christmas Sandwich as No. 2.
We wanted to make a best-selling Christmas sandwich the focus of our fund-raising efforts this year, so keep enjoying The Festive Pig, that delicious combination of oven-roasted pork chipolatas wrapped in smoked streaky bacon, nestling snugly in a hand-crafted bacon and onion baguette, accompanied by Brussels sprouts, chargrilled red onion and a dark, fruity plum and balsamic chutney. It’s such a fantastic taste of Christmas – and you’ll know you’re giving something back to The Felix Project.
Throughout the year we support The Felix Project by collecting any surplus bread from our stores and returning it to our bakery in Acton where we turn it into delicious bread pudding. This is collected every day by The Felix Project volunteers and distributed to local kitchens, community halls, schools and day centres as part of their valuable work to provide a nourishing meal to those who would otherwise go hungry. Last year we turned 4.5 tonnes of surplus bread into bread pudding. PAUL staff volunteer at Reffetorio Felix, a community drop-in centre providing meals made entirely from surplus food and served to the most vulnerable in the local community. Here, our teams can see the direct impact the availability of nutritious food can make to people’s lives and how rewarding it is to see surplus food becoming a delicious meal rather than waste in landfill.
Not only is this vitally important work, supporting The Felix Project is part of our wider aims to reduce food waste and improve sustainability in every way we can.
Thank you for supporting The Felix Project with PAUL.
